Americans for a Clean Energy Executive Director Christina Hayes released the following statement on Sen. Tom Carper’s (D-DE) introduction of the Promoting Efficient and Engaged Reviews (PEER) Act as a discussion draft:
“There is broad consensus that the U.S. needs to dramatically scale up its transmission infrastructure to bring low-cost, reliable clean power to American communities. But we can’t achieve this when it takes ten years to approve a new line. Chairman Carper’s proposal would make meaningful improvement to U.S. permitting law by providing one-step siting for important lines, providing significant benefits for affected communities, and clarifying the process for allocating costs. ACEG appreciates the bipartisan interest in these issues, and we look forward to working with Chairman Carper to get permitting reform across the finish line this Congress.”
