Washington, D.C. (June 7, 2021) — On June 7th, four Midwest Governors filled a letter to John Bear, CEO of the Mid-Continent Independent System Operator, Inc. in support for MISO’s long-range transmission planning effort to cost-effectively maintain system reliability in the face of a changing climate. Governors included Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Tim Walz of Minnesota, and Tony Evers of Wisconsin.
In the letter, the Governors state that “we cannot allow the transmission system to become a barrier to meeting our climate commitments, nor can we sacrifice system-level reliability as the number of extreme weather events driven by climate change continues to increase” and urge MISO to continue working with states in the transmission planning process.
