Tuesday, January 16, 2024 (Washington, D.C.) — Today, led by Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM) and Ed Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Paul Tonko (D-NY), 113 House members and 21 Senators filed letters at FERC calling for the Commission to finalize a strong regional planning and cost allocation rule. In the letters, members urge the rule to require a long-term look at the changing circumstances, planning for all economic and reliability benefits, and adoption of a backstop cost allocation method. ACEG Executive Director Christina Hayes released the following statement:
“We applaud the members of Congress who filed this letter urging FERC to strengthen and finalize its transmission planning rule. The grid is in need of a 21st century update, and the reforms currently pending at FERC will go a long way toward increasing the reliability and resiliency of our energy system and ensuring the delivery of cost-effective energy to all Americans. We will continue to work closely with FERC to help finalize a durable rule that advances the development of high-capacity transmission for the benefit of customers throughout the country.”
The letter from the House can be found here and that from the Senate can be found here.
